Facebook Upgrades Camera and Introduces Stories

Facebook continues its Snapchat offensive with significant upgrades to Facebook Camera and the addition of Facebook Stories. Facebook is notoriously methodical in its new feature roll outs, and this update proved to be no different.

Facebook has been testing the new features for months and essentially launched the complete Snapchat experience in a single day. The launch includes a virtual reality camera, disappearing stories, and a way to share photos and videos straight from your camera with your friends.

Snapchat, with its hidden features and intentionally vague user-interface, has always been a haven for a younger and savvier technology generation. Its nonintuitive user-interface made it difficult for an older generation to adopt the app.

Facebook’s much wider audience demographic requires new feature additions to be intuitive and easily adoptable by young and old alike. If Facebook’s roll out of Stories to the Instagram platform is any indication of future success, you can expect that your customers will be using these new features to connect with your business sooner rather than later.

Simply open up the Facebook mobile app and tap on the camera icon on the top left corner of the Facebook app or swipe right from News Feed to try out the new in-app camera. The magic wand on the bottom left hand corner unlocks dozens of effects like masks, frames and interactive filters that you can apply to your photos and videos.

Once you snap the perfect selfie, you have to decide whether to share the pic as a post on your news feed, as a Story which lets you share multiple photos and videos as part of a visual collection atop News Feed, or as a Direct message that’s designed for sharing individual photos and videos with specific friends for a limited time.
