Last month, #RedForEd and the resulting school walkouts were the talk of the nation, and we all witnessed the incredible support the historic strike gained in our own communities. It was the first statewide walkout in Arizona history with an estimated 75,000 teachers leaving school to protest.
Whether it was large groups of supporters in red shirts, #RedForEd on the vehicle rear windows or signs taped on the bridges over State Route 51, the movement has been the case study on how to rally the community. But there are plenty of causes and problems in this world with large groups of devotees, so how did #RedForEd gain so much support so quickly? And more importantly, how did they accomplish organization on such a massive scale?
